The critical process is important because it enables the consumer to dissect the meaning of the media they are taking in. Day in and day out, we’re bombarded with media from the moment we wake up to when we go to bed at night (unless you’re the kind of person who sleeps with the TV on?). Being able to think critically about media empowers the consumer to be more active and informed. Someone who bypasses the critical process is at risk of being manipulated, whereas a more critical person isn’t at as great of a risk.
